At research and educational site, Glendale Fire created a changed, charred landscape
Restoration work following the Glendale Fire is already being planned at Rock Creek Ranch, a research and educational facility west of Bellevue.
The fire, ignited by lightning southwest of Bellevue on Sept. 2, scorched 4,653 acres of the ranch, amounting to 62% of the 7,546 burned acres.
The fast moving, wind-fueled fire charred significant expanses of the ranch’s sagebrush and grassland ecosystems, took out countless miles of fencing and even incinerated wetter meadows and riparian areas bordered by willow and aspen trees.
