Community & Conservation Benefits
Walking distance from downtown Bellevue, Howard Preserve is a 50-acre riverfront public access preserve created and stewarded in partnership with the Wood River Land Trust, City of Bellevue, and the Friends of Howard Preserve. It offers trails, fishing, and swimming holes on the Big Wood River, making it one of Bellevue’s most beloved community assets.

The 0.55‑acre parcel on the southern end of the preserve is now available for purchase. Securing this property will:
-
Create a permanent year-round southern entrance that is safe, legal, and clearly signed, resolving a decades long public access challenge from the south.
-
Strengthens Bellevue’s walkable connection to the river and trails.
-
Permanently conserves approximately 400 feet of Big Wood River frontage from future development.

Wood River Land Trust has an exclusive option to buy this key addition to Howard Preserve. If we don't act, it will be listed on the public market and risk becoming a private riverfront residence—permanently blocking the south entrance to the preserve for our community.

How You Can Help!
The Wood River Land Trust is working with the community to raise the $335,000 needed to permanently protect the property by September 30, 2026. Together, we can protect an important stretch along the Big Wood River and secure southern access to the Howard Preserve.
