Wood River Land Trust eyeing local project opportunities
The Nature Conservancy in Idaho received in late October a $19.44 million award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help it purchase up to 25 conservation easements in Idaho.
Conservation easements limit future development on properties, preserving major wildlife migration corridors and natural floodplains while keeping the land in private hands.
The Nature Conservancy-Idaho’s anticipated purchase of 15-25 easements would permanently protect about 20,000 acres of forestland and rangeland from the threat of conversion to subdivisions, the organization said in a press release. The easements would also preserve more than 40 miles of streams and protect underlying aquifers.
