The Wood River Land Trust is moving to protect nearly 10 acres of riverside habitat along the Hailey Greenway. We acknowledge that the integrated community housing plan has sparked a lot of discussion, and we are here to provide clarity as the project evolves.
The Wood River Land Trust and the City of Bellevue seek to acquire a 0.55-acre parcel to secure a permanent entrance at the south end of the Howard Preserve.

The Wood River Land Trust has commissioned a road ecology team to develop a Long-Range Mitigation Plan for reducing wildlife vehicle collision conflict on the highway segments across the Country, as part of the Wildlife-Vehicle Collision Subcommittee of the Blaine County Regional Transportation Committee.
Through scenario planning, the Land Trust aims to clarify how land-use regulations and future growth in Blaine County could affect water consumption and riparian habitats in the Big Wood River watershed.

Rivers don’t work in a straight line — and neither do we.
The Side Channel exists as a space for deeper reflection on the Wood River Land Trust’s river program. It’s where we explore the science, stories, and values that shape habitat restoration, fishery health, and community benefit in the Wood River Valley and beyond. Like side channels in a river, this blog runs alongside our on-the-ground work. It’s a place to slow down, ask deeper questions, and share what we’re learning as we monitor, restore, and prioritize river habitats.
This space is for anyone who cares about the future of the fishery and the river corridor — and who understands that meaningful restoration takes time, curiosity, and a willingness to look beyond what we’ve always known.

Quienes somos
Desde 1994, Land Trust ha tenido una presencia dinámica y creciente en el valle del río Wood, preservando y protegiendo el río Big Wood, sus afluentes y los preciados paisajes del centro de Idaho. Trabajando con una comunidad visionaria, hemos preservado casi 27,000 acres, creado 16 reservas abiertas y 41 servidumbres de conservación. Juntos, hemos celebrado lugares como Hailey Greenway, Boxcar Bend y Howard Preserve, donde las personas pueden experimentar una actividad saludable, aguas cristalinas y una sensación de asombro. Con familias locales, hemos protegido miles de acres de tierras de trabajo que conservan hábitats críticos para la vida silvestre, preservan vistas panorámicas de nuestro Valle y contribuyen a nuestra economía agrícola. Propietarios privados y socios públicos se han unido a nosotros mientras restauramos kilómetros de riberas de ríos y humedales. Nuestros éxitos en preservación y restauración han protegido muchos espacios abiertos importantes que han hecho de nuestro Valle un lugar increíble para vivir, trabajar y jugar.
