Why it is a Conservation Priority Appreciating the variety of wildlife there, the Nehers entered into a cooperative agreement with the Shoshone School District, Department of Fish and Game, and BLM in 1993 to designate and manage the site as an environmental education area - an outdoor classroom - for local schoolchildren. The parcel contains both banks of the river, a shaded picnic area and a photography blind and provides habitat for a large array of birds and other wildlife. The area is located less than two miles from the Shoshone School and was designed with easy access for school busses. The BLM portion of the environmental education area is part of the Lava Wilderness Study Area. The Wood River Land Trust will continue to work with the BLM and other partners to manage and preserve the area in perpetuity.
What To Do And See: Along the Little Wood River just east of Shoshone and adjacent to BLM land, this 9-acre preserve is a lovely place to fish, picnic, and enjoy the riverfront.
